A bruise is a common skin injury that contributes to skin discoloration. When you get a bruise, blood penetrates beneath the skin and collects under the surface of the skin. This results in the dark mark on your skin. People may easily get a bruise because of bumping into something. For the first few days, a bruise may be painful and tender. However, pain often disappears in a few days.

Bruises usually cause both cosmetic and physical discomfort. For some people, it is extremely important to get rid of bruises as fast as possible. Fortunately, there are many simple ways to get rid of bruises and speed up the recovery period.

While you may get rid of common bruises at home you need to keep in mind that certain types of bruises require medical help. It is extremely important to contact a doctor when the bruise is accompanied by swelling or doesn’t disappear for more than two weeks. A bruise that lasts for more than two weeks may indicate severe internal injury. You also need to seek medical help if bruises occur for no reason.

If you have a bruise that doesn’t require medical help may consider using some home remedies to speed up healing. Below you may read about effective tips that will help you get rid of bruises in the short term.

1. Ginger

Ginger is great to calm inflamed or injured skin. Crush some ginger and apply it to the injured area. Leave the ginger on your bruise overnight to achieve the best result. You can use some gauze to keep the ginger in place. You may repeat this procedure for one or two days. To boost the healing process you may also pair ginger with a cold compress.

2. Vanilla extract

Concentrated vanilla extract is an effective way to eliminate bruises. This oil is filled with antioxidants that boost healing processes in the body. Thus, the bruise will disappear faster.

You need to apply a few drops of oil on the injured area and massage it gently up to a minute. You can repeat this procedure a few times a day. When applying concentrated vanilla extract immediately after getting the bruise you reduce the risk of a bruise to turning blue-black.

3. Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a good anti-inflammatory remedy that can help you get rid of bruises faster. You need to apply some aloe vera gel on the bruise and gently massage it. Aloe vera is good to treat bruises all over your body, even for bruises on the face. You may find aloe vera gel in any drugstore and beauty store. However, you need to opt for a natural and pure aloe gel or use a plant itself.

4. Heat

Heat is one of the most popular ways to get rid of bruises. The heat helps boost blood circulation and increase blood flow to the affected area. This method prevents blood trapping in the bruised area. Heat will also help relax muscles and relieve any tension. You can apply a bottle with hot water to the injured area or take a hot bath. You can use a heating pad as well.

5. Cold pack

Cooling is a good bruises treatment option. This helps reduce the amount of blood that leaks in the surrounding tissues and relieves swelling. Thus, bruises become less noticeable. You may use a reusable ice pack or even bag with frozen vegetables wrapped in a towel.

Apply an ice pack in the affected area for up to 10 minutes and take a break. Then you may reapply another ice pack to the bruise a few minutes later. This method will help you to get rid of most bruises on your body.
