Amazon partners Patel Logistics for air cargo delivery

amazon-inAmazon has entered into an air cargo partnership with Patel Integrated Logistics for providing next-day delivery services to customers ahead of the festive seasons, reports the Economic Times. The company, which had rolled out its next-day delivery service last December, said the demand for next-day delivery was rapidly increasing in smaller cities and towns and this move would let it meet the demand.

Patel Logistics has secured exclusive bookings from airlines including SpiceJet, Jet Airways and IndiGo to deliver Amazon’s products during the festive season and said it would setup a dedicated team to service its client’s needs. The company will be responsible only for the airport to airport delivery, the last mile delivery will be handled by other Amazon partners like Gati, FedEx and Blue Dart among others.

Girish Huria appointed by eBay India as Head of Communications

logoEbay_x45Former COO of Avian Media, Girish Huria will join eBay India as the Head of Communications at its Mumbai headquarters today, reports Exchange4media. In his new role, Huria will work closely with MD of eBay India Latif Nathani and work under the Senior Director of Communications Asia-Pacific Daniel Feiler, to drive consumers and merchants to the eBay brand.

Huria, who has close to 15 years of experience in the communication industry, started his career in 1999 as a managing partner in Genesis Burson Marsteller moving to Avian Media after 10 years in 2009. At Avian Media he worked for 4 years and was responsible for business acquisition and client servicing.

AMDA launches a standard mobile app for a variety of government services

amdaLogoThe apex organization of municipal bodies Association of Municipalities and Development Authorities (AMDA) launched a standard mobile app that can be adopted by all civic bodies to provide a variety of services like paying taxes, getting birth and death certificates, lodging complaints and even weather alerts to citizens, reports the Times of India.

Officials at the launch said that the app would be customizable depending on local municipal requirements and that some of these apps would go live by October 2. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) already has such an app, which is used by locals and NRI’s to pay their taxes and played a useful role in reducing panic when there was news of a flood hitting the city.

Cisco launches ‘Cisco Smart City’ as model smart city

Cisco logoCisco inaugurated the ‘Cisco Smart City’ initiative in Bangalore, a blueprint for the next generation of smart homes and other connected communities across the country. The Smart city is laid out over 2.6 million square feet area, is designed as a campus-as-a-city for Cisco employees and showcases pervasive network infrastructure to easily connect devices like mobiles, sensors and information access points with a high level of security.

As a part of the initiative, Cisco demonstrated how cities would evolve with context to education, healthcare, buildings, transport and parking and change the way communities are designed, with economic, environmental and social sustainability in mind. The demonstration also included showcasing a citizen’s access to government services in real time through online and mobile mediums using its ‘intelligent network’ infrastructure.

Snapdeal expands furniture category with HomeTown tie up

Snapdeal LogoOnline retailer Snapdeal.com entered into a partnership with Future Retail owned furniture retail chain HomeTown, in order to expand its product offerings in the furniture category, reports Economic Times. According to the agreement, Snapdeal will add 300 home furniture options from HomeTown for now, with 200 options across the furniture category expected to come next month.

Snapdeal had previously added a real estate vertical to its website in partnership with Tata Value Homes to offers more than 1000 apartments from seven housing projects in various cities. It also entered into an agreement with Croma to offer products across various categories like mobiles, laptops, tablets etc., which are available at Croma’s physical stores, on its brand store on Snapdeal.com.
